Friday Mar 14, 2025
Friday Mar 14, 2025
Let's head on over to CattlemansCorner.com and take a look at that sale calendar
today. We've been talking to Jim Felton from Felton Angus Ranch recently. That sale is going to be online, held from the superior livestock headquarters in Hudson, Oakes, Texas. That's today, so check out Felton Angus Ranch through DV Auction for superior livestock.
Then a dozen more good sales until that one on Tuesday, March 18th from Elk Angus. That was Mr. Tyler Scales from Buffalo, Wyoming.
You heard Brenda tell us about that Western Cattle Source Annual Production Sale on March 20th. That's going to be held at their ranch at Western Cattle Source in Crawford, Nebraska.
Just the next day we have the March 21st Schweitzer Red Angus Annual Production Sale just outside of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pleasant Dale. That's going to be at the Tucker Cattle Company Sale Facility. Your contact there is Austin Schweitzer, whom you heard from on our program earlier this week.
And of course, don't forget our good friends up in Harrison, Nebraska, the Gray's Angus Ranch with their second century bull sale. Monday, March 31st.
You can find all of these sales and dozens more on cattleman's corner dot com. That's cattlemanscorner.com. Just click on the sale calendar. And if you're interested in getting your sale listed, it's free. Just go online and do it yourself. And if you're interested in getting on the radio, give us a call here or schedule yourself for an interview right there on cattleman's corner dot com.
People love hearing from you.

Brenda Beeson - Western Cattle Source

Thursday Mar 13, 2025
Welcome to the Cattleman's Corner. I'm Brian Hale sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe. On today's Cattleman's Corner we have Brenda Beeson from Western Cattle Source in Crawford, Nebraska.
"My mom and dad they raised commercial cattle growing up and then I started raising cementol and cementing cattle. A long time ago I could put it that way. We started buying some registered cows when I was in high school and stuff and I always say that my deal the cementol cementing started out as a 4-H project that got carried away."
That's turned out to be some great crosses.
"Yeah we started using them there in the commercial world on our cows and then I started with the buy-in on some registered cows. I just kind of intrigued by it. Just kept growing it and then met my husband at Laramie, University of Wyoming and then we got married and continued to keep raising Simmental, and we run a handful of registered quarter horses. This is the first year we're going to have horses on the sale. We got four-head of horses on the sale along with the bulls. We got 79 bulls and 17 bred heifers on there and we're selling choice on the Reserve Champion Pen of 3 of bred heifers that we had in Denver at the National Western Stock show this year. "
Brenda Beeson, Western cattle source in Crawford, Nebraska. That's going to do it for today's Cattleman's Corner. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

Austin Schweitzer

On the phone today we have Austin Schweitzer from Milford, Nebraska.
That's in the eastern part of the state just outside of Lincoln.
I appreciate you having me on. I have a farming background. My parents never farmed but my grandpa did. I just got a passion for cattle from kindergarten up, whether it was bucket calves or anything like that. Acquired some cows in high school. Then through college I worked at the Cow Cafe Research Center for four years at Mead, Nebraska, which is affiliated with the University of Nebraska.
And that's kind of where my passion clicked in there during those college years. I was blessed to be a state FFA officer. I can remember what year that was now, 2001 somewhere in there. I was heavily involved in FFA through high school and then I would have been an officer of my sophomore year in college.
What kind of cattle are you raising?
So right now we have a unique operation. We have a seed stock herd which is 90% Red Angus. We do do a lot of black-eyed red angus. A lot of people in the area just want to stick with black and I respect that. And I like to have the opportunity to breed with angus, and red angus traits. So seed stock herd and then we also run a feed yard. So we see it from, the calf being tagged all the way to the calf getting on the truck to slaughter at our local packing house. So it's kind of interesting.
Austin Schweitzer from Milford, Nebraska. That's it for today's Cattleman's Corner.
Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.
